Which is still technically yesterday, so my update is about 2 weeks faster than usual lol.

Was very happy with my decision to forego Men's Final tickets in favour of spending the day with my two ladies [info]charly2004 and [info]lady_razzle! *loves* We finally got to the pub venue on time after circumventing the globe (aka the Northern line) but it turned out we still had to wait about an hour and a half for the gig. At least we filled up on cider in the meantime. I had no idea who Jason Manns was before Charly asked us if we wanted to go, but his music was perfect for listening to on a summer Sunday afternoon. :) After that we headed for pizza and CHEESECAKE OMG before seeing Charly and her green bag of doom onto her train. Did you take any pics of the Yotel, Charly? I'm still intrigued! Also, Razzle got to meet my mum and brother and i remembered to introduce Raz by her actual name which is v. impressive on my part. ;)

Speaking of mum and brother, i got the same train back so got to hear all the details of the final. Mum managed to get Pat Cash's and Michael Stich's autographs and J managed to get some pretty good pics. They were in the first row.

I know I have some tennis fans on my flist, so I thought I'd share some with you. [info]jenlynn820, I included one of Pete Sampras for you!

Triumph and disaster )

Day off tomorrow, thank the gods.

Also, TORCHWOOD YAY! Ianto ♥

Soooo I've been at work all day, but I'm still buzzing about last night.

I went to see the first ep of Torchwood season 3 at BFI Southbank with my lovely [info]lady_razzle, courtesy of the awesome [info]londinensa.

MY LIPS ARE SEALED.

It was great to see Russell T. Davies at the Q&A - like Razzle, I've been a fan since Queer As Folk. Eve was as adorable as ever, and it was funny to watch Barrowman try and tone it down for once. :P He and Eve are like giggling schoolgirls.

Afterwards, Razzle, Li and I went to Las Iguanas, where I had yet more cheesecake (although i did share it this time, honest!) and we cursed the BBC for not giving us an airdate for S3 yet.

If I was 8 I'd probably be writing the BBC a begging letter, like the time I asked them to move Dukes of Hazzard to earlier in the evening so it didn't clash with my bedtime. (They actually sent me a letter back, which i still have. Although they didn't alter the time, the bastards.)

It was such an awesome event to go to. Thanks so much, ladies! ♥

Oops, this was over 2 weeks ago and I've only just got around to posting about it. But don't worry, I don't expect anyone on my flist to give a damn about GA - I just want to record it here. I've been into girl groups since I was little and adored Bananarama. Then it was The Bangles; now it's Girls Aloud. So now you know my dirty little secret. :p

Decided to post in reverse, so Cobra is first up on the recap.

On Friday I travelled down to London yet again - this time to see Cobra Starship at ULU. A total bonus was meeting up with [info]lady_razzle there; at the last minute she'd been able to get hold of a ticket. :D I had no idea she liked CS, but it turns out we have v. similar musical tastes (Girls Aloud aside!).

We got into the venue really early and proceeded to skip the three (yes, THREE) support acts in favour of sitting and talking haha. At this point I'm going to complain about the lack of alcohol at the venue. A gig at a student union and no bloody beer? What is this fuckery?! The support bands certainly had access to beer, if not food (most of them were so skinny it was frightening).

FINALLY, Cobra came on. We stood pretty much at the back but because the venue was tiny we had a great view. The stage was of course rather on the small side and it was amusing to watch Gabe trying to bounce about and sling his microphone stand around in the cramped conditions. Dude never stands still. The crowd were practically on the stage too, which really fed the energy.

So, as usual I'm doing things about 6 months after everyone else, but I've now got a Dreamwidth journal (thanks to the lovely [info]londinensa). It's not called 'friending' over there, right? Well whatever it's called, you can add me over there as hazyshade. ;) I think it's really just going to be a back-up for LJ once I, er, work out how to do that.

I also have 2 invite codes if anyone would happen to like one. :)

Today finds me reading Star Trek XI fic. It was really only a matter of time!

Amazon Rank

So it turns out Amazon.com are removing the sales rankings from gay and lesbian books on the basis that they're 'adult' and will upset a section of their customer base. Yet books of Playboy centrefolds or trashy Jackie Collins books full of crappy smut aren't deemed adult and have their rankings left intact. It's basically the equivalent of hiding the LGBT books on the top shelf.

The really idiotic thing is, most of these books are just textbooks on queer theory, or books on the history of homophobia (oh the irony), or books designed to help confused teenagers come to terms with who they really are. :( They've even taken the ranking off Stephen Fry's and John Barrowman's autobiographies.

Search for 'homosexuality' on Amazon.com and you get an array of books about 'curing' it with jesus and the like. That says it all, really. So much fail. :(

Here's a link if anyone wants to read more about it:

In happier news, I've been to see my granddad today and he's doing a lot better. He's put on a lot of the weight he lost and is so much more like himself. :)

Apparently I've not been receiving comment notifications for over a week, so I apologise if I haven't responded to anyone. Am i the only one having this problem at the moment? Grrrr.

Anyway, I wish everyone a good evening tonight (or, for some on my friends list, last night *is confused*). And thank you to all those who have stuck by me this past year - you're true blue and I love you lots.

I hope 2009 is a great year for all of us!

Because I finally have time to jot down a few thoughts on the US Autumn/Fall TV season so far. Or, more specifically, the shows I've watched: Smallville, Heroes, Dexter and 30 Rock.

Ruminations - beware of spoilers! )

FWIW, my highlight of the UK Autumn season was C4's The Devil's Whore.

*facepalm* Well, I have all my tickets to FOB - but now I apparently have tickets to see Girls Aloud too, haha. I have no willpower. And I fully expect Cobra Starship or The Bangles to announce a UK tour any time now just to really test me.

Lame excuse of the day: I'm single-handedly trying to keep the economy alive. And it's not like my bank hasn't been throwing my money away on ludicrous loans, mortgages and fat cat bonuses anyway. :p

At least I amuse myself?

As always I'm at least 2 weeks behind everything, but wtf is with the new profile page? I seriously thought it was a coding error or something screwed up with firefox - I refreshed at least 5 times before I realised that this mess was actually some idiot's idea of a design. Then again, I'm pretty fussy about layouts and so on. I hate MySpace with a passion partly because the layout is so tacky and overcrowded. Ugh.
